A dork in youth as well as adulthood, your Gleaner has paid pretty close attention to every national convention since 1972 (Eagleton!), and if I may I would suggest that even the most objective observer would agree that none of them, not even John McCain's Palin-infested tracigcomedy four years ago, was as lame, in an uninspiring sort of way, as Mitt Romney's dumb convention this year -- especially considering the economic conditions the Republicans had to work with.
So what best describes Romney's speech?
A) Pap
B) A Hallmark card -- oh wait, that's the same as A)
C) Really who cares because Mitt Romney should have waited for 2016 anyway.
And looking ahead to the 2016 GOP convention, here's a dead lock: The roster of speakers will not include Willard Mitt Romney.
I endured the Clint Eastwood speech, and was pleasantly surprised on two points:
(1) Eastwood didn't mind that Obama got (most of) the troops out of Iraq.
(2) Eastwood quoted Obama as setting a withdrawal date from Afghanistan, to which Clint Eastwood said, "why not pull the troops out tomorrow afternoon?" Good question, Clint!
Not even the Republicans are campaigning on an honest pro-war platform:
"If you want peace, vote for my opponent!
If you want war, vote for me!"
Of course, many hawks - Republicans AND Democrats - are tireless antiwar activists in their personal lives. They dodged the military service while voting to fund the war. So really they ought to be labeled as chickenhawks.
Bill Kristol, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Bill Clinton, the list goes on and on and on.

Has ANY Romney served their country in a uniform?
Ah, takers not givers.
Draft dodgers the lot of them!
