Survey says: Known commodity Shelley Berkley is crushing someone named Byron Georgiou in the Nevada Democratic Senate primary, 71 to 6.
With the short American century (1944-2007?), one of the briefest in the history of empires, having come to its ignominious and whimpering end, successful U.S. politicians have sensibly abandoned any serious consideration of economic policy to cynically focus exclusively on clever positioning so as to secure the all-important short-term objective of winning their next election (see: Obama, Barack). Partisan Democrats will go along with this, because Republicans are horrible.
Meantime, all this Byron Georgiou person ever talks about is the need to tackle the fundamental structural problems that are precluding any possibility of economic recovery, particularly household debt. So clearly, this poll makes as much sense as anything in contemporary American politics.
Shelly Berkley voted for the debt bill, which in the near future will have very serious consequences for domestic spending. Dean Heller voted against it.
I'm with Heller on this one. OK, his reasons were not the same as my reasons, but still...he voted the right way. And the public is on his side. The American public thinks the debt deal sucks.
Give credit where credit is due.
Even to a Republican.

As long as I have your attention, let me pass on to the Gentle Readers of the Gleaner an INSIDE TIP. Race right down to your neighborhood race and sports book and put a bundle down on the Dallas Cowboy, because I have inside information that they are a LOCK to win the SuperBowl.

Why do we rely so much on surveys to tell us what we think? No one in a survey cares what Byron Georgiou thinks because they don't know who Byron Georgiou is. I have no idea. I have never met him. But I am not going to let some survey tell me I do or don't like him. I am going to trust something more reliable: the fact that the last three letters of his name are "I-O-U". With $14 trillion in debt, do we really need a U.S. Senator who ends everything he signs with "IOU?" It's just not worth the risk for me.
Plus, it's my own personal pet peeve that all these rich guys want to serve elected office feel like the only place to start is in the U.S. Senate. No regents, no State Legislature, no school board, just the Senate. God Bless Jim Rogers (is that redundant?), but at least the guy says he cares about his community and applies his skill set to tough jobs that have a real impact on that community.
My advice for Mr. Georgiou, go spend some time on the School Board. Do a turn in Carson. We sure could use the talent.

Goldy, good to see you still here still full of it. Rogers ran for nothing and served on nothing; he volunteered to serve as interim Chancellor of Higher Ed and then effectively appointed himself Chancellor. He then achieved nothing in 3 years.
Anyway if you want to be accurate, Giorgiou is on the Paradise Township board which makes advisory decisions on land use planning in part of unincorporated ClarkCo. In that job he voted against, among other terrible ideas, Sue Lowden and Chris Milam's idiotic proposal to build a huge arena with public money. They lobbied pretty heavily for it and he stood up to them on it.
By the way what sort of positive community impact has the state legislature had in the last, oh, twenty years?
