Some hapless Tarkanian or other didn't even get a week to be flavor of the month before all eyes turned to the newest contestant in Who Wants To Be A Senator, Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden.
A poll -- a poll! -- says she can beat Sen. Harry Reid. Of course, the poll also says that four in ten Nevadans approve of holy roller, colossal hypocrite and spoiled brat John Ensign, so either the poll is suspect or Nevadans are (not that the two scenarios are mutually exclusive).
Still, if the economy fails to recover and Reid fails to deliver on meaningful health care reform, Lowden can totally beat him. The same can be said for that teabagging Sharron Angle or that carpetbagging banker schmoe or that brownbagging old fart who works in the hardware & fasteners aisle at Home Depot who actually got through to Rush that one time back in aught-two (in fact, the only person who might not be able to beat Reid is this alleged Tarkanian character, who somehow manages to make even Reid look authentic).
If on the other hand the economy appears to have turned a corner and Reid miraculously finds a spine and doesn't wimp out on health care reform, an energy rethink and finance industry regulatory restructuring, the titular Senate majority leader could have a chance. That is, Reid will get on board if he knows what's good for him.
Lowden can't even have a shot at Reid unless she first survives the Republican primary, which means she'll be forced to demand that the Kenyan-born Barack Obama explain not only why he is so dead-set on killing theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and little Trig Palin with his bare hands, but also why he forced Paula Abdul to leave American Idol, damned socialist.
In other words, can Sue Lowden bring the crazy?
Yes she can! I'm guessing, anyway.
But here's a nail-biter: if Sue Lowden runs for Senate, who will fill her shoes and make sure that everything continues to run so smoothly for the Nevada Republican Party?
Reid's disapproval ratings across the country are huge.
I doubt people in Nevada think any more highly of him than those in the rest of the country.
When you have a zero like Reid, you run the risk of losing even if the other side runs a zero against him.

Perhaps it would be worth your time to go to the polling firm's website, www.vitaleassociates.com. There you could read this:
Vitale has been providing research and campaign strategy for Republican candidates for over 15 years.
It also refers to his work against labor unions. Gee, a Republican polling firm finds strongly in favor of a Republican candidate. What a shock.
And let me amend the strongly. Consider the margin of error. Add in that for all of the talk of Democratic power, the independents tend to lurch rightward anyway. Toss in that I have been polled enough times and learned enough about polls to know that pollsters can target the audience to get what they want. Take Ensign's numbers as the cherry on top. For the whipped cream, what people do not yet know about Sue Lowden.
Should Reid be concerned? Of course he should. Any politician with brains would be. The bigger concern is that this kind of poll automatically gets the attention it does without the additional perspective needed.

Sue Lowder totes brought the Republic Party out of the wilderness! With Jim Gibbers and Johnny "Casino" Ensign, she is the third member of the most powerful troika in Fallon. Watch out, liberal elite!
Posted by: Dude | 08/11/2009 at 10:06 AM
If Sue Lowden becomes a U.S. Senator, and I can work for her, be in a sex scandle with her, have her parents pay me $94,000, AND get on Face to Face With Gotee, staring Jon Ralston, she has my vote!
What has the Majority Leader ever done for me? I can't even get a super speedy train from California; or quench the thirst of my moarl ego by getting universal health care; or turning back the battle ship of the nuclear dump; or bailing the State of Nevada out of an even more severe budget crisis; or the myraid of little things that he can do with a phone call from dinky little Nevadan's; or get a presidential caucus to help his party. Seriously, I would rather have sex with my boss for $150,000 per year plus bonus ($94,000.00.)

I'm impressed. The R-J managed to find a pollster even more in the tank for the Republicans than Mason-Dixon. That takes some effort.
Posted by: That Anonymous Guy | 08/11/2009 at 11:07 AM
Not even the R-J's Mason-Dixon polls try to skate by with sampling numbers as small as this Rent-a-Poll used. With only 510 respondents, the margin of error should be MUCH larger. Besides, how many Nevadans actually know who Sue Lowden *is*?
Vitale must have done some serious cherry-picking to arrive at those numbers. And is the inclusion of a favorable/unfavorable-rating question about John Ensign a not-so-subtle Lowden/Muth hint for Johnny Casino to hit the bricks?

Harry Reid, the Missing Man...missing from leadership in every secter except his re-election--if he gets really lucky.
Posted by: Beverlee A. Couillard | 08/11/2009 at 11:19 AM
Wow, a poll shows that old man Harry is in trouble and they freak out. They give no reason why Harry should be re-elected, they just throw temper tantrums. Brilliant strategy.

Danny Tarkanian's not the only one with skeletons in the closet. Sue Lowden sits on the board of directors of Archon Corp., which has had a couple of run-ins with its investors over insider-friendly stock transactions:
http://www.casinocitytimes.com/news/article/$4-million-archon-bonuses-challenged-by-new-york-firm-151538
http://www.lvrj.com/business/9559687.html
Archon also stirred up quite a bit of ire back in the late Nineties with a blatantly racist ad attacking tribal casinos (as opposed to the lavish customer experience one could enjoy at the Lowdens' Pioneer casino, in Laughlin).
Posted by: David McKee | 08/11/2009 at 12:13 PM
Oh, btw, it looks for Reid. According to the poll, "Of the 510 poll respondents, 44 percent identified themselves as Democrats, 38 percent as Republicans, 15 percent as independent or non-partisan, and 3 percent declined to state an affiliation."
That means even democrats are not voting for Reid.
About the only way Reid can is if he gets ACORN to register voters and if the Tinky Winky thugs over at the SEIU man the polls.

Dan: Please take your right-wing troll comments somewhere. Free Republic would welcome them -- but here, we think.
Grow up, poster.
Posted by: Happygirl | 08/11/2009 at 02:09 PM
So, if Sue Lowden throws her tiara into the ring, who chairs the Nevada GOP for the rest of her term? Maybe they could bring back Paul Adams, considering what a fine job he did in '06.
Posted by: David McKee | 08/11/2009 at 02:37 PM
Where to start?!
Poster David McKee is already dropping some of the opp-research of the Romney v. Lowden light weight match! "[D.E. Shaw senior VP]Sole said the bonuses, which have not been explained, make D.E. Shaw wonder if Archon [Lowden family] "is seeking to be run as a family fief on which minority shareholders remain as serfs."
Oh, and there is that bankruptcy that she was a part of......
Ensign is at 40% approval and is a shoo-in for re-election and Reid at 39% approval is doomed! Where is the congruent logic?
Anyone here long enough in tooth to recall the throwing out of heavy weight U.S. senator Howard Canon in favor of Chic Hecht? What the hecht did Hecht ever do for Nevada? We threw Heck overboard for Dick Bryan in the next election....at the end of the day, it was a net loss for Nevada in the Senate Seniority Seating Chart.
Lowden? Backed by Charlie Brown Muth?! Lowden who pays Muth money!!!! Under the 2008 Clark County GOP rules, Lowden is ineligible for CCRP assistance as she does not support the 2008 platform because she supports Yucca development while the 2008 CCRP platform does not! Is there a 2009 Platform? who knows, it is not on-line and thus the members of the CCRP do not know what the Platform is...regardless, she violently opposed and knew or should have known the CCRP opposition to Yucca as she is from Las Vegas!! The CCRP rules prohibit aiding any candidate that does not support the Platform of CCRP.
Is this the same Suzanne Lowden, a former beauty contestant/on air reader of the news who married a casino mogul who got a state senate seat...who was involved as a witness in the Lori-Lipman Brown defamation law suit against Sen. Kathy Augustine, R-Las Vegas? ""(A lawsuit was settled in 1997, without an apology.)""
citylife
Is this the same Sue Lowden who was involved with a company that declared bankruptcy years ago?! I wonder how the creditors made out? Did Lowden ever have to make them whole and did she?
I don't see Reid losing, he knows where ALL the bones are buried in Nevada! Any contestant will be required to lay their whole life open to intense scrutiny!

Happygirl-
Don't even try with Dan. He's too busy enjoying his R-J induced fantasy. And considering how this polling outfit is clearly a Republican operation (Thanks, Prof. Green!), the poll really does look like a fantasy directly out of Chuckie Muth's head. So just let Dan indulge in his fantasy. We'll beat whoever emerges from the GOP bumper car fiasco.
Btw, wouldn't Dean Heller have decided to run if his internal poll numbers resembled that R-J crap? ;-)
Posted by: atdleft | 08/11/2009 at 03:45 PM
I know someone who got polled. It was a push poll in Lowden's favor.
BTW, thanks for making a connection between Lowden and Ensign lovers! LOL!

Both of them have such great hair, too.
Posted by: Michael Green | 08/11/2009 at 09:49 PM
Oh Happygirly, yee of so little faith. Face it. If you put Mickey Mouse against Reid, Reid would still lose. Reid is a loser who has disowned nevada. But keep popping you pills so you can see Reid in rose colored glasses. Face it unhappygirl, Reid is disliked by democrats and the GOP. But you and the other libs still keep sing Kumbyaa and dance around the campfire and put your fingers in your ears and yell LaLaLa. Reid is going to lose big time.
Posted by: Dan | 08/12/2009 at 01:29 AM
"Screw Las Vegas" wasn't that shouted out at recent Ceaser's Palace Las Vagas Obama fund raiser? Obama says Las Vegas "bad" and 360 conventions cancel because it's no longer "PC" to have a convention in Las Vegas. What's unemployment there now? 15%?
I know, I know "Bush Bad " ..I get it .
Posted by: Joe the Plumber | 08/12/2009 at 08:42 AM
Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Reno Muse. After all, it seemed mighty odd to poll *only* Lowden vs. Reid. Why not Tarkanian/Reid or Amodei/Reid or Angle/Reid or ... ? At least two of the aforementioned have higher name recognition than Sue Lowden.
Posted by: David McKee | 08/12/2009 at 11:42 AM
@ Michael Green 9:49
Win!

GirlyDan: How charming,your nicknames are.
You don't know what you are talking about.
But as adleft said, reasoning with you is a waste of time.
Good luck.
Posted by: Happygirl | 08/12/2009 at 02:32 PM
Too bad, unfunny girl. It is too bad that you just don't have a sense of humor. bu then again, most liberals don't.
Obviously, you just really don't understand what is going on. Reid has sold out Nevada, plain and simple. A chimpaneze can beat him, especially a cute one.
But since you take advise from adleft, I guess you can't think for yourself.
As for adleft, he hasn't had a intelligent thought in who knows how long.
Posted by: Dan | 08/13/2009 at 12:21 AM
A "chimpaneze [sic]" would probably be smart enough not to need "advise [sic]" to use Spell Checker, "bu [sic]" Dan is no such "chimpaneze," proudly thumping his chest and displaying his illiteracy for all to view.
Posted by: David McKee | 08/13/2009 at 12:17 PM
Ahh, yes, David. You are just so smart. Can't beat them with facts, so just make fun of them. Yup, that just shows your inntelligence. Maybe you can actually come up with an arguement as to why dimwit Reid would win, as he tries to screw the people of Nevada. But of course, you can't. But thanks for playing and showing off all your witty comebacks for all to see. I am sure they will now vote for Reid because of your wittiness.
