In February 2008 while in full-on mid-affair mode, Sen. John Ensign wrote a letter, well, more of a note, really, to his mistress apologizing for schtupping her even though she was his wife's best friend and her husband was Ensign's best friend and they were both Ensign's employees and really does the creepy never stop with these people?

Of course, gabbity-gabbing about Goddy McGod ensues.

Alas, it turns out that the next day Ensign flip-flopped and decided that however great a friend Doug had been (and despite giving Goddy McGod a sad), it was all worth throwing away again and again and again, for another six months in fact, if it meant Ensign could continue to have more feel good sexytime and "use" Doug's wife "for my own pleasure."

Family values!

Ralston got the get on his TV show. The Sun has a rundown of Ralston's interview with Doug Hampton and a copy of the sad little love note from a troubled, guilt-wracked (but apparently not that guilt-wracked) 'Do, whose mostly pernicious career in public life increasingly appears to be coming to an ignominious, tawdry and unscheduled but richly deserved and hilarious end.

UPDATE: The Doug Hampton interview can be viewed on the internets. Creepy? Eh, in a mildly supercalifragilistic sort of way.

The 2 people that I can't understand are Mrs. Ensign & Mrs. Sanford. Their husbands are quilty of adultry, lying, deceit, they don't love their wives, have no respect for them, have totally humiliated them and worse have shown no consideration for what they have done to their children. They both are hypricites and they both use God and religion for political gain..that is blasphemy. Why do these 2 women not kick there sorry asses out...how can they "forgive" them. A leopard does not change it's spots...

Everyone knows that Nevadans elected Ensign's hair, not his penis (or his penmanship). Perhaps we could surgically remove the hairdo from the 'Do, and have it be the junior senator from the Great State of Nevada.
It couldn't be worse than the one we have now, although it still might crawl around and sleep with other men's wives.

I almost feel like demanding for The 'Do to leave The DC... Except that I know that Mr. LuvGuv Gibbons would then appoint the successor. And while it's almost tempting to wish he'd appoint himself to the Senate so Nevada can have a new Governor, I just don't think we can handle another womanizing creep misrepresenting us in Washington.
