This was cute. TV personality and Sarah Palin wannabe Mike Huckabible had the emotionally unbalanced and mentally unsound Jim Gibbons on Fox News over the weekend (sorry, can't find a link) to talk even more about, sigh, how Barack Obama singlehandedly made Las Vegas suck. So apparently they're having trouble lining up guests -- and topics -- on Huckaboob's show.
Anyway, Gibbons going on Fox to yet again milk that lame-ass non-issue for his own political gain isn't the fun part. The fun part was when Huckabilly did what Gibbons might have done had he the presence of mind -- and to the best of my knowledge what Gibbons has failed to do in the course of making all his noise about Obama's alleged insult to a town that Gibbons himself mostly seems to hate. That is, Huckabub moved beyond the Obama non-controversy to remind a national TV audience that there are bargains to be had in Las Vegas these days so people ought to be taking advantage of that and visiting the city.
And maybe it was a some form of vestigial gubernatorial courtesy, Huckabum being a former governor himself and all, but he offered Gibbons an opportunity to also sell the town a little on TV. "Is this a good time to come see you?" Huckabaloo asked, as if hosting an infomercial.
Gibbons started out OK:
But America's most self-serving governor was obviously uncomfortable discussing Las Vegas tourism in any context other than how the topic could be exploited to ingratiate himself to the Obama hating teabaggers who he is counting on to help him win the Republican gubernatorial nomination. So with the very next words to come out of his lying mouth, he quickly abandoned the opportunity to encourage people to come spend money in his state and retreated to the terra firma of his more familiar and customary milieu -- clumsy political grandstanding:
But yes people should come to Las Vegas.
In other words, when Barack Obama said taxpayers don't want financial services companies to fritter away bailout money on expensive perks and fancy parties, he was undermining troop morale and signaling a lack of American resolve in the War On Terror. So vote for Jim Gibbons.
Gibbons seems fact challenged, again!
GIBBONS:"...in January, the state of Nevada, in it's pride in being part of this great country, I ordered over 600 of our Nevada national guard troops to go fight the war on terrorism for this administration."
FACT: "Jan. 7, 2009
Army Guard’s Cavalry squadron set to deploy this spring
CARSON CITY — About 450 soldiers in the Nevada Army Guard’s 1st Squadron/221st Cavalry are on official notice to prepare for a spring 2009 deployment to Afghanistan. The soldiers will provide security for a provincial reconstruction team that is rebuilding the country and will also conduct combat and infantry missions in Laghman Province to ensure civil order in the region."(Nevada Office of the Military)
Seems to me that on January 7, 2009 the Commander In Chief of U.S. military forces was then President George Bush. Too, it was a Congressman James A. Gibbons (NV-R) who years ago voted to invade numerous countries in support of "the war on terrorism" and as such, seems these Guard units are going off to fight for the Gibbons Administration (if I understand Gibby's 'logic').
I happened to catch a piece of the Hillbilly and the Ladies Man interview last night-but after 30 seconds, I had to turn away.

One wonders why Governor Rapist didn't go there himself and singlehandedly defeat the enemy. I am sure he thought to himself, all those women over there ....

Why can't we impeach this EPIC FAIL out of office?

Off topic:
I saw our distinguished Gleaner and antigovernment extremist Chuck Muth interviewed on Cable 19 this evening. I thought the Gleaner did a fine job at articulating a liberal/leftist point of view. The Gleaner ended with a fervent wish that Jim Gibbons be the Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2010. Amen to that!
It was the first time I had even seen (as opposed to read) the Gleaner. I found out about the event just by accident as I was aimlessly channel surfing.
Suggestion: In the future, notify the readers of this useful blog when you'll be interviewed.
I know that whenever Katrina van den Heuvel, editor of The Nation (magazine), is interviewed on a Sunday morning teevee show (Meet the Press, Face the Nation...) The Nation pours out a torrent of emails, advertising her appearance vigorously.
Thanks!

NV Ned-
YES! And btw, can we find video? It's nice to see Mr. Gleaner out and about making the radical right loons show their true colors.

Gibber the Fibber would have to call the Lege into special session in order to have himself impeached, as I understand it. Besides, he's such a useful piñata for both Dems and GOP alike (but for different reasons) that both parties are only too happy to keep him around.
