From AP:
Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada admitted Tuesday he had an extramarital affair with a member of his campaign staff. Ensign told The Associated Press in a statement, "I deeply regret and am very sorry for my actions."
Sigh. This would be a lot more fun if Republicans mattered.
This is his THIRD affair!!! I feel for his poor wife.
Too bad DOMA didn't protect his marriage.

Ensign is a Promise Keeper.
What??
Don't know what that is? Let me save you the trouble of googling.
The First Wave of Christian conservatives was the Moral Majority.
The Second Wave was the Christian Coalition.
and the Third Wave was the Promise Keepers.

Is Ensign a Mormon?
Posted by: Digger | 06/16/2009 at 03:40 PM
@digger & rich,
Shockingly, the Hairdo is not a Saint. His preferred brand of hocus-pocus is something called the Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

Goldy,
Please repost with proof of the first two affairs.
December 2007 to August 2008 he had an affair with "campaign staffer who was married to an employee in Ensign's office"?!?!??!?! He would be fired by any public employer or, as co-ceo of a public company, he would be terminated.
Ensign is supposedly the most conservative member of Congress?!?!?!? By WHAT friggin measure?!?!?!
John Ensign, as a matter of principal, you MUST, resign from the USS. Your own words damn you!!!!!!

Ensign membership in the Promise Keepers is mentioned (for example) here:
http://www.whorunsgov.com/Profiles/John_Ensign
The Promise Keepers held a number of rallies in stadiums to attract new members, and energize existing members. The goal was to create an organization of evangelical Christian conservatives that would cut across denominational lines (Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, etc.) But in recent years, the Promise Keepers have run out of money. Like the US Senate, except that the Promise Keepers can't just print more of it.
By the way, the Wikipedia article on Ensign has been vandalized: Someone has posted a picture of Elliot Spitzer (disgraced NY governor) in place of Ensign. Funny!!

That first post from "Goldy" is not the regular "Goldy" that posts funny things here!!!!!

Com' on, anybody know the NAME of the gal he misbehaved with?
Posted by: NevadaSucks | 06/16/2009 at 04:11 PM
Ol' Johnny Boy is a Pentecostal, actually. Only one in the Senate.
And no, Pentecostals don't encourage screwing around. Those are the folks behind the "Jesus Camp" featured in the documentary of several years ago. Their brand of social conservatism makes Mormons look like hippies.

That is funny about the DOMA not protecting his marriage! ha!
Typical stuff though. Did he ever publicly criticize Edwards? I wonder...they seem to criticize everyone else and yet they are doing the same things.

OOPS!!! Thanks, Hugh.

Now it begs the Republican conundrum: Is it better to be a whore loving reprobate like David Vitter, or an employee dating slime ball like Ensign?

Mr. Tea Room-
Ha! I'm so ROTFLMAO right now! :-D
Ned-
Oh yes, as someone who survived "Fundie Wingnut Land" as a kid, I know what "Promise Keepers" is all about. So really, I must ask this question: What promises did Hairdo make to his mistress? Is he keeping them now?
Oh gawd, I'm LMAO again! :-D

Ensign is not a Mormon (yet anyway, as soon as the Mormons have real political clout then he may join up)
Here's his bio: (listed as Christian)

I belive the affair was with Cynthia Hampton.
Cynthia is the wife of former (top) Ensign staffer Doug Hampton. The Hamptons both worked in DC at the time.
Doug left the Ensign payroll in May 2008. Cynthia had worked on Ensign's "Battle Born" PAC.
More interestingly, Cynthia was also the Assistant Treasurer of the NRCC. The NRCC's treasurer, Chris Ward, was busted in early 2008 for embezzling millions of dollars over ten years. It seriously damaged the party. Ward supposedly "robbed" many PAC's including Ensign's "Battle Born."
I have to wonder if Cynthia might have been in on the embezzling too. Maybe the Senator as well.
It seems unlikely that Cynthia's spouse would try to blackmail someone just over an affair. It had to be bigger.
You might also want to check out how the Hamptons managed to afford a $1.6M house in Vegas while living in DC.

OK, I know this Mr. Gleaner's "favorite newspaper":
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/jun/16/ensign-acknowledge-extramarital-affair/
But they're confirming that Cynthia Hampton's the "lucky lady". I just can't wait to see the fireworks go off!

John Ensign is a veterinarian. The obvious solution to his fence-jumping issues? "Neuter and Spay, it's the Only Way."
