Rising Nevada political star Greg Nance will now be free to focus on his gubernatorial bid full time. RJ
"Mr. Nance is not the first nitwit to win public office," says the RJ editorial page writers, reflecting perhaps on their endorsement of Jim Gibbons for governor.
Speaking of ardent Jim Gibbons supporters, it's a little redundant to point out that local media darling and knee-jerk anti-government state Sen. Bob Beers is a bought-and-paid-for subsidiary of Bitchy Little Area Megalomaniac Sheldon Adelson (just like "Democratic" County Commissioner Tom Collins). Still, it never helps to document the fact, so thanks to Scandalmonger at VoteGibbonsOut for performing a public service.
Inasmuch as the political analysis is so sharp and well-informed, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that somehow a column written by Stephens Media bean-counter-in-chief Sherm Frederick was mistakenly published under RJ columnist John L. Smith's byline.

I read Smith's column today and wondered WTF so now I know what happened. Obviously I missed the obvious, a Sherm in John's clothing.
Commissioner Tom Collins fucked the NSDP and as far as I can tell, he's as useless as tits on a tomcat. I'm so proud of our local leaders I could shit.
C'mon Hugh, Collins is a bit of a redneck and said some stupid things but he's a a reliably pro-labor vote. Anyway, isn't the problem a system whereby 5 or 10 grand donations are allowed and considered necessary to hold office? Does taking 10 grand from Adelson make him any more of a tool than taking 100 grand from a combination of democratic PACs and lobbyists?
Collins being a redneck is not the pertinant issue, being a dumb redneck who can be bought with bucks, irrespective of "right v wrong" is. The problem with Collins is he has no moral center; he doens't know right from wrong.
Watching him throw around money to the Democrats as he was trying to buy good-will and the Chair of the party was disgusting to experience; and now knowing that that money was dirty laundered right wing GOPER money covered with blood stains of innocent Iraqis and courageous American soldiers, I am sickened and disgusted.
Tom Collin's political success illustrates the "low bar" of Nevada politics that the Gleaner speaks of. Special interests have lowered the bar and its up the the Nevada Democratic voters to raise that bar back to a place where values matter and dollars donated do not dictate public policy.
Any Democratic candidate who took any money from Tom Collins should immediately donate that money to a favored charity and call a press conrerence to denounce Sheldon Adelson and his pet pro war proganda prop, the so called "Freedoms Watch."
CJ - there'd be a hell of a lot of people who are currently serving donating to charity. It'll never happen because they're all self interested LSD schmucks.
"Bob Beers must feel the "Surge" in Iraq has failed!", because recent reports indicate that public employment is growing far and away ahead of private employement...too, there is little private capitalization in Iraq. Maybe Senator Beers of PCMC and NDEA fame and fortune could start a branch in Iraq?
Cantor Gaming & Wagering is closely tied in with the Venetian on a couple of projects, so perhaps we should lump their $2K to Sen. Beers in with all the other Adelson stalking horses.

Nah, Sherm could not possibly have ghosted Smith's column; there's not a single mention of Bill Clinton's zipper.
