From the Sun's coverage of the nation's worst governor's short but increasingly ugly-looking press conference Wednesday:
"I'm a person who sleeps very little. I probably get two or three hours of sleep a night. So I'm constantly sitting there with my mind turning, thinking about issues. Often times I will text people at 1, 2 or 4 or 6 o'clock in the morning."
He said such texts go to a "number of people in my circle."
From the Reno Gazette-Journal's examination of Gibbons' text message records:
He didn’t use his state cell phone to text message anyone other than Karrasch.
But of course, he only used his state cell phone for one purpose — to text Karrasch about her dog. But he used his private phone to text people in his "inner circle" to discuss the weighty policy issues that keep him up at night.
Inasmuch as the governor is intensely eager to prove that he is not a liar, he will no doubt put up no argument when the media seeks the text message log for his private phone lines.
UPDATE: Btw, don't miss RGJ's text sex timeline. There are many fine entries from which to choose, but just a taste...
Wednesday, April 4: Story breaks about Dawn and Jim Gibbons vacationing in Turkey with the owners of a Sparks company that Gibbons had help secure a lucrative federal defense contract. Gibbons spends the work day exchanging 156 text messages with Karrasch.
AND ANOTHER DAMNED THING: If he's telling the truth (inconceivable though that may seem) when he says he's getting no more than three hours of sleep a night, that would be one explanation (albeit of many) why Nevada's governor is the nation's worst.
You are way off the mark. Her dog's name is "Taxes." That is how he came up with his policy--he would sneak into her house and whisper, "Down Taxes!" And that seemed a great idea he sent in a text message much later.

He texts people in his circle? We need to figure out who's in the Gibber's Five. Obviously the woman with whom he is not having an affair is one of them. Bob Beers? Maybe Eliot Spitzer? David Vitter? Given John McCain's treatment of both of his wives, maybe him, too.

Now I'm wondering if its a state phone, and taxpayers are paying the bill, who is legally responsible for not ensuring archival of the content as this is 100% state property? You have no expectation of privacy in the workplace, period.
Is that the legislature or the Attorney General's turf? You'd think after years of text sex and porno scandals in the workplace making headlines, someone would investigate this.
I ask, because I was in the office a a very prominent person who had a woman being corn-holed as his desktop wallpaper, I sheepishly asked what was up, and learned that despite several policies regarding Net access and appropriate materials---nothing at all is blocked in this state---nada, zip--nothing. Phone and Net are free and clear for anyone to access anything they please.
Been blocked in the private sector for years, but not in the public sector in NV. I would think Erin or Patrick or one of our other good journalists would take a look. Ms Valentine, care to comment dear? Mr Roger? Mr Gillespie? Ms Cortez-Masto? Anyone?
Sex is still the currency that drives every single thing here...and TextGate is just the latest example.

Truly, it was must-see TV to watch The Gibster squirm and "apologize" on Channel 8 tonight, but ultimately, who cares about our cheezebag Nevada governor (you think ANY Vegas sports book would take a bet that he will STILL be in the mansion in november 2010 .. not !) when there are bigger fish to fry ..
