Heller offers agenda of hope to frightened, hateful voters
Obscure War Party congressman and cute blond trophy spouse Dean Heller says he is in tune with the ignorance-driven paranoia of the fearful, cloistered constituents who elected him, so they should return him for a second term of ineffective representation laced with silly wingnut rhetoric.
Specifically, it makes heartland heads hurt to think about America's catastrophically bungled and morally offensive warmongering. And any serious consideration of the structural causes for national and global economic instability is precluded within most of Heller's district as it would require an abandonment of simplistic and vulgarized conservative ideologies that Heller's supporters hold so dear.
Not surprisingly, then, the one issue that Heller says he hears about the most from his thoughtful electoral base is the pressing need to require that federal ballots be printed only in English (RJ, RJ, RGJ).
Heller's bill would make an exception for ballots printed in Native American languages because, as the blond explains, "they were here first" — by which he appears to mean "they were here before blond Republicans like me."
In 1776 when America was still an English colony and the "American" notion of wilderness didn't extend much west of Boonesborough, Spanish explorers were scouting Heller's congressional district.
A half-century or so later, trappers would work the region. In French, often as not.
The Mexican territory that would become the state of Nevada was ceded to the United States under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed at the conclusion of the Mexican-American War in 1848 — three years before Willard Romney's ancestors would establish the first "white" settlement in the state. Among the treaty's provisions was a stipulation that the civil rights of Mexican nationals living in the ceded territory would be protected.
Meantime, in recognition of his constituency's empassioned nationalism, Heller is also reportedly drafting legislation to change the name of the state from Nevada, which is the un-American and offensively Spanish word for "snow-covered," to the more patriotically appropriate "Whiteland."

wow....ad hominem much? Really...let's try a post without insults.....

Mary, "ad hominem" is why Hugh gets so few "ad vertisements" here. As any writer would say, cheap personal attacks are easy to write.

Mary and Addy, good to see Heller gets his interns in early.
And just for the record, wouldn't "ad hominem" be outlawed under an "English-only" bill?

Nice history lesson, Gleanerwan, as we will see history repeat itself in CD2.
Obviously this is just as much campaign spin/trickery as Hillbot lowering the gas tax. This is campaign PR to keep his face in front of the public the same as his picture in the paper Sun getting a 91 year-old vet his purple heart. And on and on. Heeler has become quite good at free PR while his opponent (her name and face slips my memory right now) has an astounding 4 Press Releases in 4 months.
I still maintain this race [sic] is just a hoax especailly since Heeler's only opponent at present is an Independendent America. Maybe Derby hasn't been able to raise enough to pay the filing fee.

Does anybody remember when Heller seemed almost sane? He wasn't a bad secretary of state, and he wasn't that bad in the legislature. But it's like Jon Porter: his inner scumbag is just determined to rear its ugly head.

Heller is so concerned about ballots in spanish that he waited until he filed for re-election (what is this 20 years out of his 47 on earth that he has been on the taxpayers' teat?), to announce his proposed legislation. PANDERING!
You know that 'small government' Heller has sponsored or co-sponsored over a $100,000,000 in pork in his short 16 months in federal office. You know that, right?
Heller sticks the earmark in the appropriations bills and then, knowing the bill will pass, votes against the bill. Then he says with a straight face that he is helping rural Nevadans by bringing home the pork while telling them that he is against pork and that he votes against pork appropriations.
The guy is just a bald face liar and he is betting that you and the rest of the voters are too stupid to catch on!

Of course "English only" is one of the right's bogus issues, but I do wish progressives would realize that sticking up for neglected native-born American workers (oh you know, like blacks in the inner city), whose pathetically low minimum wages get pulled down because huge Republican corporations like fastfood chains & Las Vegas hotels LOVE exploiting the massive presence of illegal immigrant labor, is just as important as turning on the bleeding heart and reflexively pleading the case for our poor lamentable non-English-speaking visitors.

Mary: "Let's try a post without insults."
Fine, go away. Your presence insults me.

Face it, even a liberal wants certain questions answered, and not by politicians' bullshit platitudes like "America has always welcomed immigrants" ..

HOW WILL THEY BE LABELED IN WASHOE, NEVADA,LAS VEGAS,WINNEMUCA, TONOPAH AND OTHER NON ENGLISH NAMED LOCALES?THIS IS JUST ANOTHER INFLAMMATORY ATTENTION GETTER FROM ANOTHER DO NOTHING REPRESENTATIVE. TEX THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FOLKS UP NORTH CAN'T GET IT TOGETHER AND VOTE THIS CRUD OUT.I KNOW WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO OUST PORTER UP TO THIS POINT BUT NOW WE HAVE A CANDIDATE IN DINA TITUS THAT WILL SEND PORTER PACKING.

KBM, as long as
DerbyDonner is around no one else will step up and run. Don't ask me why because she was such a do-nothing from nowhere when she ran in '06 and then you folks down there put her in as Chair further showing she was an incompetent.Let's hope Sam et. al can interest some real candidates for '10 and send this old nag to the barn for good. Shelia Leslie is a good example I'd like to see run (if she even wants the job). But you can kiss '08 goodbye as far as relacing the incumbent.
And, yes, y'all down yonder do hold the record for having the most God-awful politicians in Nevada (Boss Reid, Ensign, Pooter, Collins and Foley, et. al).

Despite your vicious and mean-spirted attacks, Heller is right. Only English language ballots should be used. If you can't read them, too bad. This country is an English speaking country. All other nationalities who came here (most of them legally, mind you) learned to read English. So should the illegals.

Dave202 = Troll, and not a very good one at that!
Posted by: KidFromVegas | 05/07/2008 at 01:46 PM
Dave202,
If this english only ballot issue was suuuchh an important issue for Heller, one that he had wanted to change since his time as our secretary of state, WHY did he wait until 16 months into his term to introduce said legislation? Heller announces the legislation on the same day he files? Bold face lier. That is what he is.
We get we we vote for, so the joke is ALWAYS on us.
Posted by: dave404 | 05/07/2008 at 02:52 PM
dave202: The illegals should learn english?
Are you gonna send the illegals to school? Y'all need to get your positions straight! Deport them? Teach them? I'm kinda lost.
Plus, I thought the Republicans/Libertarians were all about small government and personal freedom. I guess I was wrong.
Posted by: theo | 05/07/2008 at 03:38 PM
Do Nothing Heller again blowing smoke up Dave 202's a**. This has lead to delusional thought.
Posted by: kickboxermomma | 05/07/2008 at 03:44 PM
How are the elections going to work in Puerto Rico if the ballots are only printed in English?
That would be more fucked up than Florida 2000.
Posted by: Pondering | 05/07/2008 at 11:47 PM
This is a slippery slope. For all those in favor of multilingual ballots, they're blatant discrimination. Ballots were in English only in the old days...if they're so important to be multilingual today then they should be in Italian, French, German, Swewdish, etc. etc. etc. And guess who gets to pay for this service. Bullshit. English only...look at the problems Canada has with English and French.
