- John Edwards of course was the first of the leading Democratic candidates to present a comprehensive and smart universal health care plan. So it wasn't surprising last week when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama heated up the dispute over the relative merits of mandated coverage and whether their respective plans were universal or not, it was Edwards who chimed in with actual details explaining how a mandate would work. That's one of the things discussed in the Gleaner's column in this week's CityLife. But mostly the column's about how come nobody ever calls the War Party the Health Care Party.
- Edwards picked up the endorsement of the Nevada Communications Workers of America Thursday. The CWA in Nevada has 4,000 members, which isn't a lot — though Edwards now has the support of unions representing 28,000 workers in Nevada. More importantly, he just keeps hanging around, all Steady Eddy like.
- Somebody in the Edwards campaign must have looked at the calendar and saw the holidays coming up, because in what might be a simply brilliant move, they've been the first to head into the traditional end o' campaign nice-guy mode in Iowa. And from the little we saw of Wolfgang Thursday, the media kids are lapping it up.
Edwards has consistently been out front of Hilly the Hun and Obambam on every issue.
