Adelson runs attack ads against Porter
Anti-war radical extremists who want the U.S. to end its misguided fiasco in Iraq, or as they're known outside the political-media-industrial complex, people, know that Jon Porter can't be trusted to do the right thing on Iraq. That's why another demo had been scheduled at Porter's parking lot Wednesday morning and Americans United for Change are keeping Porter's smiling mug on the teevees, but not in a nice way.
Meantime, a new group of dangerously neurotic-by-definition Bush apologists (How dangerously neurotic, you ask? Bitchy area megalomaniac and temperamental prima donna Sheldon Adelson is amongst them) don't trust Porter either.
Calling themselves The Latest Batch of Bloodthirsty Warmongers Sheldon is Bankrolling, er, Freedom's Watch, they've launched ads
to run in districts inhabited by several members of Congress, including Porter, who for whatever reason (barely surviving an election challenge from someone just out of her twenties who had never held office, perhaps) might be suspected of wavering on America's Glorious Goal of staying at war with somebody, anybody, for ever and ever and ever.
The Adelson-backed White House front group has apparently decided that terrifying Democrats into caving to Bush or risk being called terrorist sympathizers who hate America, apart from some occasional hitches, has on the whole worked remarkably well over the last several years. Now, with War Party drones like Porter awakening to the stark reality that everybody hates them, the White House has decided it might as well start threatening to use the same tactics on its hitherto fully obedient and house-trained members of Congress if they don't stick with the program. Just to be on the safe side.
The ads reportedly are running in "more than 20 states and dozens of congressional districts" and are aimed at "ensuring Congress continues to fully fund" the Iraq fiasco. The buy costs $15 million, which is to say the amount of money Adelson took from now-destitute Chinese peasants who liquidated all their meager assets to pay their gambling debts at Adelson's Macao casino between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. the Tuesday before last.

Just got this email from the Edwards campaign regrding Rove's attacks on Hillary, thought it was interesting. More so that Edwards would send out an email like this, not Rove's MO:
"...It may seem backwards, but Rove and his cronies did the same thing last time around. In 2004, they were scared of John Edwards, so they attacked John Kerry.
Don't take it from me—take it from Rove's own lieutenant on the Bush-Cheney 2004 reelection campaign, Matthew Dowd:
"Whomever we attacked was going to be emboldened in Democratic primary voters' minds. So we started attacking John Kerry a lot in the end of January because we were very worried about John Edwards." [Los Angeles Times, 8/19/07]
Rove and the Republicans want our opponents to win—because they know John will be the strongest candidate in the general election...."

That picture of Adelson, was it taken at a Romney event?! wink-wink

Pedro - I plan to caucus for Edwards. Nice to see others of the same mind.

I don't know that I will be caucusing for Edwards. I'm not even sure if I will be in town, I'd like to do a semester abroad.
But I did think that was an interestingly explicit email to send out.

Where will you go Pedro?

This thread is about the local Anti-War Movement and pummeling Porter the Political Puppet and Bush Bag Boy for voting AGAINST OUR Troops, OUR Military Families and OUR Veterans - I'm really disappointed that you "Pedro" and especially you "Jaded" would be so rude as to cop this thread and attempt to change the subject - that's just tacky, Tacky, TACKY!

I think Johanthan L. Abinett is a great American, a brilliant blogger, and a swell guy. He's also concise, subtle and quietly hard-working. Above all, I admire that he is humble and respectful of others.
Now, repeat that 100 times, Jaded. And you too Pedro.

OK, JLA, have it your way - Did anyone take a look at the ads? If your stomach can tolerate it, suggest you do. How can this bullshit continue to be spewed? We've been hearing this stuff for an awful long time now, and its been debunked repeatedly. Does it still work? Scary if it does:
The 1st ad has a legless vet telling us why he re-enlisted after 9/11 - because "they attacked us" with a photo from 9/11. And then he tells us that we're making "real progress" in Iraq. How can anyone still believe Iraq had anything to do with 9/11? And what exactly is the "real progress" that he's talking about?
In the 2nd ad, the woman claims that Al Qaida took someone from her twice - 9/11 and in Iraq. Again, how can anyone still believe Iraq had anything to do with 9/11?
In the 3rd ad, we're urged not to "surrender." And just who exactly would such a surrender be communicated to? Don't you have to have an identifiable enemy to effectuate a surrender?
In the 4th one, we get repetition that we're "seeing results" and that if we "surrender" we will have another 9/11. Again, what are those results and who the hell are we surrendering to?
It's just the same old crap rehashed to keep congress from "switching votes for political reasons" because, you know, as Gleaner would surely tell us, no one in our government does anything for political reasons. So glad the wingnuts are watching out for our freedom (and never mind how much less free we are since the chimp took office).

"O.B." Of course, I looked at the radical, right-wing, neo-con funded oppostition ads - and was hoping for some commentary like yours - thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!
The vast majority of the American public has, finally, turned against the unethical, immoral, unnecessary, illegal, un-American and Unjust War in Iraq - and so are more and more of our military, military families and veterans!
But, we have to stay united, build our numbers and sincerely Support OUR Troops, OUR Military Families and OUR Vets - because it's simply the right thing to do and they certainly deserve th support of everyone opposed to the war.
This morning we had 39 adults and 8 children show up to oppose the war - that's 47 people, representing the vast majority of us, who made the time, took the time, showed up and stood out in the heat for over an hour to protest Porter the Political Puppet and Bush Bag Boy for continuing to ERRONEOUSLY attempt to link 9/11 to Iraq, and voting AGAINST our Troops, AGAINST funding for Military Families and AGAINST full funding of the VA!
Thank you Thank You, THANK YOU to ALL!
I am NOT going to criticize the sad, poorly educated or misinformed vets and military families that quite obviously do not really understand the big picture - we all have a great deal of empathy for their losses, their sacrifices and the service of others - in time, they too, we'll get past their pain, overcome the fiction and come to terms with the facts - and one of those facts will, sadly, be that the radical, right-wing, neo-con Republican nut-cases exploited veterans and military families suffering for their own selfish, political purposes - I find that DISPICABLE!
Today, a lady came out of Porter's Office Building just to let us know "Not everyone inside this building supports Porter - there are many of us that are very glad you all are out here protesting Porter and the Iraq war!" Then, she started to cry and tell me about her brother who's serving in Iraq and how badly he wants to just come home soon...several military families hugged comforted her.
This is going to get even uglier - but, it's a fight worth fighting - please, PLEASE HELP US!
Our next event will be next evening, Tuesday, August 28th - it's theme is "Take A Stand" - I hope to see you all there!
As John Edwards said, "Silence is Betrayal" - please break your silence and sincerely support OUR Troops, OUR Military Families and OUR Vets!

Let's not be silent about these crappy ads, either. An idea from a Kossack (Gonna try the link thingy again) Tell Freedoms Watch where to stick their ads

Thanks "O.B." - also, people can go to American United For Change to see their ad pushing back on Porter - we're getting more support, unbelievably, from the national level groups - locally! It's a MIRACLE!
TaylorMarsh.com has some excellent posts going also - check them out, and everybody jump in PLEASE!

JLA - I've decided to drop out of everything political so, i will not do the homework you assigned. The farce that's called the Democratic Party in this state is just that, a farce. I could go into a long disertation but i'd only be preaching to the choir. I wish you all good luck and i'm afraid you'll be gagging on hilrod. Send in the clowns, don't bother Harry, Nancy and company are here. Adieu.

That has to be one of the most unintentionally funny JLA comments ever. Hijacking a thread--who moi?

""Pro-'surge' group is almost all Jewish
http://pcapostate.blogspot.com/2007/08/jewish-newspaper-admits-that-recent-pro.html
Four of five melmbers of the board of a campaign promoting President Bush's policies in the Iraq war are Republican Jews.
The board of "Freedom's Watch" includes Ari Fleischer, Bush's former press secretary; Matt Brooks, the executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition; Bradley Blakeman, a senior White House staffer in Bush's first term; and Mel Sembler, a longtime RJC leader and former ambassador to Rome.
Brooks told JTA that the fifth member, William Weidner, a casino operator in Las Vegas, is not Jewish. However, Weidner's wife, Lynn, is Jewish and is active in that city's federation. Blakeman is the group's president.
Brooks said it would be a mistake to regard the group as having a Jewish direction [Yeah right - total bullshit!].
"It's a coincidence that several of the board members are Jewish," [LOL] he said, noting that half of the donors contributing to the group's first $15 million ad campaign are not Jewish. [This means that the other 50% was contributed by Jews, which is very disproportionate if you consider the fact that 2.5% of the US Population is Jewish and less than 1/10th of 1% of registered Republicans are Jews]
The ad blitz will promote Bush's "surge" policy in Iraq ahead of September [In other words, pro-war], when Congress is set to assess the success of the influx of additional U.S. troops into Iraq.
Brooks said the aim ultimately is to build a grassroots organization that would promote Republican domestic and foreign policies and would replicate similar groups backing Democrats.
"This is a clear message to conservatives and Republicans and others who see what has happened on the left to let them know with Freedom's Watch that the cavalry is coming," Brooks said.
Of eight donors named Thursday in Politico, a political newspaper, four are Jewish: Sembler; Richard Fox, the chairman of the Jewish Policy Center, an RJC-affiliated think tank; Ed Snider, the founder of the Philadelphia Flyers ice hockey franchise who has been elected to several Jewish Sports Halls of Fame; and Sheldon Adelson, a Las Vegas casino operator who recently launched a giveaway newspaper venture in Israel.""
