We've got an opportunity to spend a few days in a cooler climate, so we're going to jump on that.
Besides, if memory serves, the last time the Gleaner left the Las Vegas Valley, the War Party still controlled Congress. Of course, since then, the Democrats have taken charge, and aren't things on the whole much nicer now that they got us out of Iraq, delivered single-payer health care to the entire population, cut payroll taxes for lower- and middle-income workers, convinced developed countries — mostly by example — to spend generously on global health initiatives including the construction of safe water and wastewater systems in the planet's most poverty-stricken regions, and implemented an aggressive industrial and housing energy conservation campaign, just a part of shifting the nation and the world to exclusive reliance on non-polluting renewable energy sources and ridding the globe of its catastrophic dependence on fossil fuels once and for all?
Meantime, here's a pretty picture.
Later.

Have a nice trip! We'll make sure to get your 'to-do" list done while your away, if we can only get Heller to vote against everything and claim he was for it!

Well deserved rest, Gleaner. In the meantime it looks like 'ol harry is gonna get the attention he deserves so well. Good and Bad depending on your point of view. I think it might have something to do with the war but who knows for sure about these things.

Gleaner, enjoy. You've earned it. And here's hoping that in the cooler climate, they have something we lack: a daily newspaper!

And what a classy way to say "see ya later", "The Gleaner" painting. ENJOY!!
Posted by: dtjr | 07/25/2007 at 07:08 AM
So, while The Gleaner is gone--personally, not artistically--should we start our own? I'll start with today's R-J headline, how Gonzales "weathers" questions. That's a fine example of how the R-J editors skew headlines--not that even Arlen Specter, who was correctly described on Olbermann last night as making a lot of noise but never doing anything about it, thinks Fredo is a liar--and not even a good one, since he keeps stepping in it as he does it.
A real newspaper might have highlighted the lies, the previously undisclosed illegal program--but no, not with Monkey-Fucker Sherm around.

Gonzales lets out huge brain fart
Polyp Gonzales let out possible huge secret yesterday implying there were "Other intelligence activities" along with the warrantless idiocy which no one outside the White Haus is aware of. This could get interesting when pursued further......
Get a bigger shovel if you're going to dig deeper holes. Just doesn't seem to be any bottom to this pile of crap.

Any thoughts on this article from my fellow Gleaner readers?
Posted by: Pedro | 07/25/2007 at 09:27 PM
Seems to be nothing more than campaign rhetoric and posturing - not much more than two dogs pissing on the same fireplug.
Posted by: texex | 07/25/2007 at 09:52 PM
I guess I was asking about the substance.
What is more "irresponsible and naive."

It seemed like a rather inocuous little thing when Desert Beacon put it up yesterday. But when you look into it, it seems Psycho 43 has already spent at least $82 billion building superbases in Iraq. Which amounts to roughly 20% of all Iraq funding. On top of that the U.S. is creating a $600 million
embassybunker in Baghdad.Because of this supremo blunder, total withdrawl seems pretty risky to area stability if we leave these bases in the hands of the bad guys
ifwhen the Alamo finally falls. I have to wonder if the superbases were built to protect Iraqi oil so it could eventually be exported, or, if they were built to prevent Iraqi oil from being exported so the UAE can keep its oil dominance in the area.Which begs the question: If things are going so well in Iraq, why are our troops hunkered down in the
green zoneAlamo and not able to use them?Big kudos to Desert Beacon!
Posted by: texex | 07/26/2007 at 08:48 AM
Nevada Mojo has this little teaser about Iraq privatizing its oil refineries which basically means big U.S. oil is going to win after all. It would seem a crying shame to have had this war and not give them the prize they coveted so much in starting it. Now Psycho 43 can legitimately redeploy the troops to protect the refineries since they now represent "U.S. interests".
Pretty slick, don't 'cha think?

Desert Beacon Points out that the Republicans are calling this the "Post Office Congress" with congressman Adam Putman of Florida taking the lead...well that takes some balls!
First of all PUTMAN was just bragging about HIS post office
Secondly, many of the post office building are being renamed to honor soldiers and marines killed in battle in Iraq. Yup, the Republican Party is sending their people back to home districts in August to bad mouth HONORING OUR DEAD SOLDIERS! Will these people ever realize how low this is? Using the issue of our dead military personnel for their own twisted politcal purpose?
Thirdly, most of the post office renaming has been done at the behest of REPUBLICAN lawmakers.
US Rep. Adam Putman, (R) FL announced on May 9, 2007 that federal funding has been approved to build a new post office to service Poinciana and Kissimmee residents (May 9, 2007 Sentinel)

Whoa up here! Did you look at 342 closely? This is absurd!
Good research on your part though.

texex,
These names changes HAVE HAPPENED! You can see it on republican "leader" Boehner's website. Odd, I make note that HR 2563 the "Major Scott Nicely Post Office" is not mentioned on Boehner's rantsite. Wasn't there an outing of a "charity" the last time someone made fun of honoring our soldiers?republicanleadermakesfunofdeadUSsoldiers

...open question to the experts here:
When Bill Frist was running the Senate and threatend the "nuclear option" against cloture (filibuster), how many cloture votes had occured?
Has Reid allowed the same number of clotures to occur without calling for a "nuclear option"?

harry, through the efforts of Leahy, Feinstein, and others, may have blindly stumbled onto a way to get some answers to the House and Senate supoenas that have been arrogantly ignored: We'll trade you a defence spending bill for answers to our subpoenas. No answers - no defence spending bill.
Seems pretty straightforward to me but I'm not a politician (through the grace of God, honesty, and poverty).
anon, I think Desert Beacon has some of the answers you're looking for. But remember you're taking about a moving target here so the numbers are subject to change by

Reno Has A New
New Judge In Town
This is essentially a Gibbons' judgeship
appointment. And now he gets to appoint a Washoe commissioner (rumored to be senator Martin-Mathews)... which means he also gets to appoint somebody to the senate.
3 lackies for 1. Ain't Nevada govt great? BURP!
Will the appointments be negated when the FBI gets to work?

OK - here's your chance to ask Bill Richardson a U-tube question. Not sure if donation is required to ask but will be surprised if a donation is not needed to get an answer.
Posted by: texex | 07/26/2007 at 04:39 PM
Sam, am I not correct that actually the county commission would appoint a new state senator? That's how it's done in Clark County, I believe. And I think under the law, it has to be someone from the same party as the departing commissioner.
