Ensign condones illegal immigrant's criminal activities
In arguably the most interesting thing the Hair Do has ever done, Nevada's churchy illegal-immigrant-hating junior senator is cavorting with a Cuban crime lord's ex-girlfriend who is in this country illegally, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., who backs stricter controls on illegal immigration, was to raise money Monday in Miami at the home of a Peruvian woman who pleaded guilty a decade ago to passport fraud and is fighting for the right to stay in the country.
The fundraiser for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which Ensign chairs, comes at a time when undocumented immigrants across the country live in fear of what they say are stepped-up orders to deport those here illegally.
The hostess of the Coral Gables reception aimed at bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the GOP: Eve Rosen, who is awaiting an immigration judge's ruling as to whether the mother of two and wife of Wayne Rosen, a prominent Miami developer, can remain in the United States, where she has lived for more than a decade......Court records suggest that Eve Rosen's troubles began as a teenager when the then-Evelyn Runciman met Jose M. Battle Sr., who in 2004 was indicted as the elderly boss of ''The Corporation,'' a Cuban-American crime syndicate that in the 1980s stretched from Florida to New York to Latin America.
Runciman, who court documents show is 32, was a teenager when she met the elderly Battle in Peru in the 1990s and married him. They later moved to Miami. In 2004, Runciman was one of 25 people federal prosecutors charged as participants in the so-called Cuban Mafia.
The story did not mention if Ensign wanted to deprive Ms. Rosen the opportunity of collecting benefits from any payments she may have made into the Social Security system during her ten-plus years in the U.S. -- or that she might collect as her husband's beneficiary.
Had this gem though:
''We appreciate Sen. Ensign's attempts to emphasize the hard work undocumented aliens do in America, like throwing fundraisers for the GOP,'' Miami-Dade Democratic Party chairman Joe Garcia said.
It's none of our bidness, but we think that remark is good enough to earn Mr. Garcia an all-expenses paid trip to deliver a few remarks at some Nevada State Democratic Party function or other. In Las Vegas, of course.
As for Ensign, well, whew! Let's give it up for Ensign/NRSC brainiac Mike "Darth" Slanker for coming within a magnificently coiffed hair of putting the Do in the same room with the alleged Cuban mafia mastermind/illegal alien.
Dang, and Ensign/Slanker/NRSC could have used all that dirty foreign money, too.
By the way, three of the six terrorists caught planning to attack Fort Dix were Albanians in the country illegally. And running roofing husinesses in Cherry Hill, N.J. So therefore, they are taxpayers contributing to the local economy as well as doong their share for New Jersey's public coffers.

Anyway, as to Sen. Ensign (R-Dippity Do)and this whole thing in Miami, why does the phrase, "SAY HELLO...TO MY LIL' FREN!" keep playing over and over in my mind?

Jeez... How slimy can one person become and still get hair spray to stick.
Was Bebe Rebozo and the mafia there as well? Must be like old times for the repubs.
How can it be legal to accept bribes, er..contributions from someone under a federal indictment?
Good reporting, Hugh.

Penguin's right, it's right out of a DePalma film. The only conclusion? Sen. Ensign (R-Dippity Do) is secretly a gangsta rapper and was living out his private Tony Montana fantasy. They do both have lovely hair and snazzy outfits. Excellent post, Gleaner!

Give Ensign credit. He has something in common with Gibbons: helping illegal immigrants!

There's more to this than the illegal immigrant angle if you read the story closer.
Eve Whassername was married for 16 years to Jose Battle, a convicted 'godfather' of the Cuban mafia for the last 40 years and is reported to have holdings of over $1.4 billion.
The U.S. Attorney there is R. Alexander Acosta appointed in JUNE,'06 by Bush right at the END of Battle's 6 month trial. Prior to that he was Gonzales' Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights if you can connect the dots. Battle's conviction in JULY, '06 of a MAXIMUM of 20 years was a big deal for Acosta even though he'd only been there a month, claiming to have seized the $1.4 billion when in reality it only had $20 million of it. http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/fls/PressReleases/060726-01.html
After the conviction Eve swaps one rich old horse for another.
Meanwhile, Eve - who's just your everyday illegal immigrant mother and housewife - finds $225,000 in loose house money to give to the Republican Party while daddy's awaiting trial.
Enisign is taking dirty, filthy mafioso money. There's no two ways about it.
Anybody feel willing to search Enisgn's contributions for the names Hugh gives above?

The Republican party just doesn't seem able to break its profitable and long-standing ties with the Miami mafiosos.
I wonder how many kilos Ensign got last night....

How little people know - Ms. Rosen was not married to Mr. Jose Battle the godfather of the Cuban Mafia. He brought her over in order to be able to operate a money laundering casino in Peru, back then they had a law in Peru where it was illegal for a foreigner to own/run a casino, and he urgently needed this casino in order to launder the millions he was making from the bolita and drugs. Therefore, Mr. Battle brought Ms. Eve Runciman (her maiden name)to the USA in order to have her appear in paper as the casino's owner - since she is a native Peruvian. Since he was not interested in going as far as divorcing his wife and mother of his only son, he then paid his nephew (with the same name as his) to marry her and therefore showed this marriage documentation to the Peruvian authorities in order to continue runnning his casino. If you check records under miamidade.gov and look under "Marriage Licenses" you can type: Jose Angel Battle the marriage appears - but please note the grooms age (born in 1958). This is the most important part of the story - old Battle was born in 1930 or so. This was an arranged marriage between the head of the Cuban mob, Eve the Peruvian and the needy nephew. This Senator Ensign party thrower not only falsified a passport but she has also managed to keep everybody ignorant about her phony marriage and still passes it off as if she had been married to the old Battle so she won't have another crime on her record.
She will never be deported because she knows who to throw parties and donate money to.
