- A lousy stinkin' $92,000 was all it cost to hush everybody up on the Chrissy Mazzeo thing? And all Sig had to part with was a measly 10K? Well, these suckers, disproportionately represented by the medical-industrial complex, are going to have to come up with lots and lots more money when Gibbons gets his Abbe Lowell bill. Gibbons discloses who the morons are who, at least in the past, have thought it's a worthwhile investment to see him defended from legal trouble. Gibbons release and "amended" disclosure thing (in all its browser-crashing PDF glory). UPDATE: Thanks to Ralston and his researcher Sal DeFilippo (who is always doing cool stuff) for adding it all up and seeing that the total amount contributed to Gibbons' defense fund was $169,100. Sal also unearths that $30,000 of that came from Harvey Whittemore through
one of his companies (Reliable Energy, LED Partners I and II). We'd like to take this opportunity to remind Harvey that if he thinks Jim Gibbons is the type of person who can be trusted to remember his generosity, well, Harvey should know better, and he might as well have thrown his money into one of the aquifers that Harvey wishes he could mine.
- How come everybody else's fired U.S. attorney is so much more interesting than ours? As near as we can tell, ousted Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden's big trip to the beltway did not culminate in the climactic disclosure that an obscure congressman named Jim Gibbons called Bodgen in the dead of night last October to ask him to press charges against Dina Titus, Chrissy Mazzeo, Gibbons' former maid, the Wall Street Journal, 'Monger, George Knapp, Patrick Coolican, that woman whose husband died in Iraq and who Gibbons ignored, Jeff the Purple Wiggle or any other of the many, many, many people both real and imagined who are clearly out to get Gibbons. Darnit. Maybe the whole Bogden thing had something to do with Porter... AP
- Ooh, look. Snarky people who write for free weeklies with sex ads in the back still try to start little fights with other people who write for free weeklies with sex ads in the back when one soulless company comes in to cannibalize a much smaller but probably equally soulless company. Print. They're so cute. Anyway, if you read this piece in the Hawaiian Island Journal, you'll see that it's about Sherm taking the Stephens Media Group's competition-crushing-acquisitive ways to paradise, and doing exactly what you'd expect Stephens to do with paradise, which is to say fucking it up. Except the Hawaiians, who can't be expected to know any better, are mistaking another Stephens Media executive for Sherm. Other than that it's a pretty good example of a newspaper self-diagnosing its inevitable demise at the hands of an avaricious monster.
This just in (as seen on Kos): Edwards tells Fux News to go blow. Film at 11.

Can we get rid of Ralston and keep Sal DeFilippo. Btw, that's a great name - esp for a journalist.
And why is it that the name "Harvey Whitmore" makes me think of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons? Oh right, because he is delusional and completely amoral just like Mr. Burns.

Thats Whittimore to you.

On the subject of Whittimore, I think that he should supply the Coyote Springs water system with energy drink. That way the Desert Tortoises will be all jacked up and moving fast enough to avoid getting hit by cars and such

What a bunch of disconjerkutigulation. Some of those "donations" to Gibbons' Padywacker fund border on embezzlement and fraud. And at the very least are deceptive and perfidious.
Does Harvey have no shame? He should spend more time at his mansion(s).
On the other hand it is refreshing to (finally) see that lots of reporters... even a bunch of the pip squeaks... are riding this wave to try to expose the seemingly never-ending mendacities:
Govt Kickback Contract Gate
Nanny Gate
Shameless Slushfund Gate
Cocktail Waitress Gate
It might not be long before even Sam living proof you can't make a man out of a mouse Shad says something negative.
BURP!

Sal is a good guy, i.e., he lacks Ralston's ego.
Interesting piece about the Hawaiian alt-weekly wars. Truth is, there are precious few alt-weeklies that are worth the time of day anywhere. The Reader in San Diego is not bad, but even The Village Voice is getting wearisome. San Antonio has one that caters largely to the majority Hispanic populace there -- to the point that it can be and has been blatantly racist against Anglos. Of course we have our own Weekly to bear; glossy pretty covers aside, it's worthless if you seek meaty information...unless you want to know how to make the club scene. And CityLife is banal at best. I will be on the Big Island in June and hope to snag a couple copies of these rags. We'll see how bad these things are over there.
