- Robert Gates is a national intelligence cherry-picker from way-back and an eager supporter of the official slogan of the Iran-Contra scandal -- "I can't recall" -- but Harry Reid and the rest of the Senate Democrats will rush him into the Pentagon master suite anyway, heralding his chief qualification, i.e., he's not Donald Rumsfeld. Other people who are not Donald Rumsfeld include but are not limited to Chuck Hagel, William Cohen, Sam Nunn, and the cast of "CSI: Miami," but suspiciously none of them were considered for Defense Secretary.
- "Coup in Fiji, New Zealand PM outraged" couldn't interest anybody in this country before 9-11. BBC
- How come poohbahs always want to fund stuff that should be public -- higher education, for instance -- with private money, and fund stuff that should be private -- sports arenas, for instance -- with public money? LVSun
- A slaughterhouse, that's the ticket, study says (AP). And people complain that there's no economic diversification in this state.
- "It's only been in the last 24 hours that the rest of Nevada is beginning to understand what a mean-spirited, greedy corporation (Valley Health parent Universal Health Services) is," says SEIU's Jane McAlevey (LVRJ). Oh, folks with inadequate or no insurance might have had some idea before now, but we're just guessing.
- We'd like to see all the people on the Official Jim Gibbons Transition to Irrelevance teams crammed into a Volkeswagen. No, no reason. LVRJ
- The incestuous buyout of Station Casinos could slow the predator's growth binge (NVToday). What's next, movie theaters that aren't in a casino?
- Las Vegas waging "war against the homeless," activist says (LVRJ). City committed to firm "stay the course" strategy, while advocates urge Rumsfeld's pre-election-but-newly disclosed urge to cut and run.
!El sistema esta enfermo! The whole system in Nevada is sick!
UHS is locking out nurses from Valley and Desert Springs hospitals -- due to motives of pure greed. And Sierra Health Services, Nevada's near monopoly provider (with Senador "El Godfather" Raggio sitting on its board in blatant conflict of interest with its multiple state of Nevada contracts that no journalist in the state has the balls to report about)... SHS will as of 1/07 no longer pay for care in Sunrise, Mountailview, or Southern Hills. How many hospitals will be left in Las Vegas where the very sick can get care? Where should people go?
Where are the state's politicians in all of this? Nowhere. They have little reason to care -- since so many of them (as did Gov. Guinn) get their serious healthcare out of state!
Soon, sick people will be asking around in my barrio for the locations of curanderas. What else will be left?
Corruptos de mierda, todos!

....And I'd like to see the sum total of the IQ in the transition team reach three digits.

I'm kind of pissed. I'm the only Nevadan other than the Gleaner not on the transition team. 'Course, when you consider how stupid the governor-elect is, he DOES need all the help he can get!

Mark my words...Glibbons will not budget for full day K, he will seek more studies instead...

I respectfully declined Gibber the Guvver-elect's invite to join the transition team, as I have a colonic scheduled that day.

A little off topic but...
Since I work for 7.00 an hour, I'm interested in the raising the minimum wage issue nationally. Since Nevada always has to be 1 dollar above the national level, and the Dems wanna raise it to 7.25 nationally, I was wondering if the bill gets passed when it it get IMPLEMENTED? (we'll say Bush signs it) Does anyone know?

Don't worry, TexEx, as the Gibber ain't called me, neither.
Do it bother me???? Not in the slightest.
Have better things to do than waste my time with a very un-cute monkey-boy, I do.
As for the City of Las Vegas' recent actions regarding the homeless, all I can say is that am not surprised. Appalled, yes. Surprised, no.
These cunts(uttered in the British uni-sex manner, by the way)will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING, short of hiring off-duty cops and security officers to engage in death squad activities involving lotsa "disappearing" of homeless people and their advocates.
Then again, maybe not.
Depends on how far they feel pushed, I think.
These ass-clowns are going to whatever they can, however they can, to the homeless, because of Goodman's hard-on for the homeless, and Reese's need to maintain some kind of credibility in his home district, which, in the over 15 years I've been here, has been generally neglected and allowed to go to bloody Hell, homeless presence or not.
So, until either one or both Goodman and Reese are out, out, out on their ears, arseholes and elbows, we're gonna keep seeing more Mickey Mouse tactics of this kind.
Thank God the local ACLU's keeping an eye on this shit-fest, and challenging it every step of the way, 'cos otherwise, Goodman, Reese and the rest of the Sergeant Schultzes on the Las Vegas City Council would do exactly as they please, and there'd be no one in any real position to stop 'em from doing exactly as they please, when they please.
For those of you who think otherwise, well, you're welcome to your opinions.
Just so long as you remember that's all they are.
