We spoke with Chrissy Mazzeo Thursday.
No, not the Las Vegas woman who walked to the parking garage with Jim Gibbons. The California woman who wingnut blogger Chuck Muth has dragged into this mess on his website as part of a (predictable, s'pose) blame-the-victim rant. Writes Chuck:
The liberal blogs are going bonkers over this story, hoping a drunken bimbo eruption will be just what the doctor ordered to propel Dina Titus into the governor’s mansion. Well, if they’re going to fly off the handle and jump off the deep end with no facts and innuendo - hell, I’ll give it a shot, too.
The only 32-year-old Chrissy Mazzeo I’ve been able to dig up so far is a two-bit acress wannabe.
An ACTRESS! How con-veeeeen-ient.
Is this the same Chrissy Mazzeo who is now breathlessly telling the public that a Republican gubernatorial candidate assaulted her in a parking garage?
The answer, Chuck, is no. She's not. Reached in California Thursday, she said she hasn't been in Las Vegas for more than two years. And not surprisingly, she finds getting dragged into this "weird ... the strangest thing that's happened to me," and "a little scary."
Oh, and "that's nice," she added, when told of the reference to her as a "two-bit actress."
Nice indeed, Chuck. Very classy. Ass-clown.
You left out the most interesting part of Chuck's article:
"A friend of mine did a quick check of the voter registration records (not yet independently confirmed) in Clark County for "Chrissy Mazzeo." And guess what? She a registered Democrat.
But not just any ol' Democrat. This young 30-something has voted in each of the last three Democrat primary elections. That makes her what we in the trade call an "inveterate" Democrat voter. As in "hard core."
And not just any ol' inveterate Democrat voter...but an EARLY voter, as well. Which means she's so politically attuned that she knows which Democrat she's going to vote for LONG before the actual election day. And I can tell you from experience, there aren't a whole lot of young 'uns Chrissy's age who fall into that category. Usually only the hard-core partisans from both parties not only vote consistently in party primaries, but early-vote, too.
So the drunken bimbo accusing a United States congressman of sexual battery *might* just be a hard-core Democrat voter who *might* just be part of the Hollywood liberal crowd and who just *might* come from a politically active Democrat family."

But you can guarantee that the R-J still will call Muth and quote him as a political expert. Never mind that for the GOP, he's pretty much what House pages were to Mark Foley.

Really good catch Gleaner. Thank you.

So she votes in Democratic primaries...and she's an early voter...I suppose the latter would incur scorn from Ralston, but the former? At least she participates in the process! If she was a registered Republican, would she be as persona non grata?

Besides, it seems her friend, the one who bought the round for Gibbons and the Sigster, donated cash money to the GOP (according to an earlier post on here by someone else). In light of that, maybe Ms. Mazzeo's biggest error is in judgement...of the company she keeps.

Jesus, when Republican attack dogs lash out, don't they all tell you so much more about themselves than whoever they are attempting to smear. Chuck Muth, exactly the way he sounds on the radio. And what is it about Jim Gibbons that gives one the utter creeps, just even imagining our favorite plagiarist "playing footsies" in the bar of one of those bland corporate convention restaurants on Flamingo Row. And of course, Sig Rogich, the poor guy. Nevada's own Mayberry Machiavelli laughably trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Did you scream reading the RJ this morning !

Everybody knows the following kinds of women are just "asking for it" and hence can't possibly be raped: Democrats, liberals, actresses, minorities, poor, unmarried non-virgins, those who wear revealing clothing, are in the wrong part of town, are out in public alone, are out in public after dark.
I think that includes every woman in America except Barbara Bush.

I think most of us still want to know what the hell a married repug-gub candidate is doing rubbing knees and flirting with anyone whether she's a demo or not?
This surely can't be a totally new side of the gib's personality habits, now can it? Just how long and how many times has this slimeball been hitting on women and getting away with it?
Posted by: texex | 10/19/2006 at 01:29 PM
Texex returns after weeks of hiding in the corner and crying like a little baby, while his candidates get their asses kicked. Typical coward. Welcome back to the show, you opportunistic bandwaggoner! I've been waiting for your dramatic return!

John W - You left "cocktail waitress" off your list (and heaven forfend a Democratic cocktail waitress). And of course, all cocktail waitresses are bimbos.
Gee, Muth, how can you make this work both ways? She's just a "drunken bimbo" but she's intelligent enough to set this little scenario up? (well, given Giblet's level of intelligence, just about anyone with a pulse could outwit him)
Thankfully, the more these brainiacs open their mouths, the deeper they dig their own graves! Can't wait to paint the state blue in November!

So VIN, what pearls of wisdom do you have in defense of Gibbons? More of the vast left-wing conspiracy, perhaps?

Re: The Penguin 12:53 post;
No Penny Puhek on campaignmoney.com, only Thomas J. Puhek, occupation reported as DDS (story in Sun says her husband is dentist), residence reported as Las Vegas, NV. donated;
$250 Bush/Cheney (primary) 3.15.2004;
$250 Bush/Cheney (primary) 5.28.2004;
$250 to Republican National Committee 12.27.2004.
"A Republican DONOR family member! How con-veeeeen-ient." Indeed, Chuck, indeed. (Quick, blame Clinton! you dog of fire hydrant reporting alacrity.)

Hey Peter, from the first comment. Not true, no Chrissy Mazzeo registerd in Clark County. D or R, nice try. Unless her full name Cathrine, you are wrong. This is just more of the typical missinformation coming out of the republican camp.
Posted by: OldScratch | 10/19/2006 at 05:02 PM
Actually I did a quick search on the Clark County Elections Department Database myself. There is no "Chrissy" Mazzeo. There is, however, a "Catherine". She is a registered Democrat at this time and she has voted early in the both Primary and General Elections since 2000.
I also searched the web and found the actress. In fact there is a picture of her with a brief resume. If it were that Chrissy Mazzeo that was drunk and fell all over me and I were Jim Gibbons I would be pissed that the cameras were broke. THAT Chrissy Mazzeo can fall all over me anytime .
On a more serious note -- both these stories have problems with them.
A drunk individual doesn't look for their vehicle for 15 minutes and return to the hotel. They will look all night.
Chrissy knew of the existance of the cameras. This indicates they were in plain sight. If so, Gibbons didn't see them? I am not a Gibbons supporter, nor do I hate a man I do not even know. But you would have to be dumber than dumb to assault a woman in front of surveilance cameras.
Then we have to wonder how you can talk to a Congressman running for Governor for an hour and not know that they were a Congressman or that they were running for Governor. It seems her friend recongnized Gibbons, but failed to tell her who he was?
Then we have another problem. You remember his name, and that he is running for office, but don't know which office? I can see this if it were "Clark County Commissioner District E", but common -- Governor?
If someone sends the whole table you are sitting at a round of drinks it is not unusual to invite them over to the table, regardless of which sex they are.
I agree that there is truely something fishy here. But for the past year I have been a volunteer on Dina's campaign and I do not believe for one minute she had anything to do with putting this woman up to anything. That is just not her style.
It is possible that Ms. Mazzeo is in need of professional help.

What a dick. A lot of effort going into research finding out a lot about the wrong person. No effort into what Gibbons did. God forbid. I hate these people.
Posted by: Dan | 10/20/2006 at 12:47 PM
Mike Selvage, please stop. You have no evidence that the woman you looked up on the voter registry is the same woman who was assaulted (allegedly) by Gibbons.
Furthermore, you have no proof Gibbons saw surveillance cameras. Remember, he was drunk.
You must stop making conjecture about the victim. You don't know anything. Most importantly, this really isn't about her.
Posted by: IronJawed | 10/20/2006 at 02:42 PM
Hey Mike, maybe Gibber needs to put up more of those damn signs at street corners. You know, engance his name recognition, for when this happens again.
Posted by: The Penguin | 10/20/2006 at 03:05 PM
engance = enhance
Yeesh.
Posted by: The Penguin | 10/20/2006 at 03:06 PM
Nobody's mentioned that Ms. Mazzeo apparently filed bankruptcy in 2005 with over $100,000 in debt. Hmmm...
