Carter beaming into living rooms
When finance reports are published later this month, Jack Carter's campaign will show he's raised about $1.1 million so far (that means he raised roughly $450,000 in the second quarter). Sen John Ensign's report will no doubt show considerably more. Like, oh, four times more. Or five times. Or six times. But that's the thing about running against cookie-cutter corporate crony Republicans -- it's tough to outspend them.
Carter has decided to start spending anyway, hitting the airwaves this week with a couple of TV ads. We haven't seen the spots yet (they're supposed to be up at Carter's site Tuesday, but if they magically appear somewhere else, we'll link to that), but here are the scripts.
First ad:
I grew up in a small town, and from the age of six until I joined the Navy, I worked in a peanut warehouse. I later earned degrees in physics and law, and worked in finance and started my own investment company. My father's Jimmy Carter, and growing up, he instilled in me a deep sense of honesty and of responsibility to always do the right thing, regardless of outside pressure. That's why I'm running for the United States Senate. I'll be Nevada's voice to Washington, and not Washington's voice to Nevada. My name's Jack Carter and I approved this message, and I sure would appreciate your vote on November 7th.
Second ad:
The lobbyists have taken too much control over what goes on in our government. Medicare cannot use its size to negotiate lower drug prices. This is like the government has never been to Costco. Because we all know if you go to Costco and get six boxes of cereal, that's going to be a lot cheaper than if you go to a grocery store and buy them one at a time. The government is supposed to be for the people, and not for the corporations. I'm Jack Carter and I approved this message. I'm running for the US Senate from the state of Nevada and I sure would appreciate your vote on November7th.
Well, if the Costco PAC isn't contributing to Carter, clearly, it should be. Cheaper than buying their own commercials.
The campaign says the ads will run in Southern and Northern Nevada for a few days, and they'll be followed by radio ads. While he won't be on the air for long, and can't afford to match Ensign ad for ad (much to the dismay of television advertising executives in both the Las Vegas and Reno markets, no doubt), it makes sense for Carter to make an early buy on both ends of the state. Do a little bit to frame himself, before Ensign trainer Darth Slanker starts doing it for him.
Soon they're gonna put the ads on Jack's Myspace. I so excited I can barely control myself.
I wonder if Tom knew his baby was going to be hoed out to politics as opposed to everyone else who promotes themselves on Myspace, you know, actual hoes.

Those hoes send me friend requests all the time. At first I think it is some hot chick interested, and then I realize it is just some hoe.

About an hour ago, I caught the tail end of the 2nd ad. It looked good. Hopefully his polls numbers rocket up after this

I just saw the first ad--it has the air of an apple ad somehow--a very modern aesthetic. I like it, but, he didn't seem as comfortable as one would like. Loved the orange!
